Much Love Monday

This week i am loving the fact that my children are feeling well and able to leave the house! So nice to be rugged up warm and cosy in their cool winter threads! The kiddies are loving the clear Autumn days too, a chance to brave a trip to the park, jump in puddles and enjoy the crisp, crunch of the leaves under our boots!

Made my Monday. .

It is the best feeling when someone complements you out of the blue, when you least expect it. Thats what happened to me today.

I went to my wallet last week to retrive my licence as i needed to show photo id for something. To my surprise it wasn't there. Lyla lost it for sure. Must have been on one of the numerous occasions i reluctantly handed it over, just to shut her up. I searched high and low. It was nowhere to be seen. Hubby gave me the talk ... i shouldnt let her play with my things.. what if it was my credit card... blah blah.

Anyway, so I headed off today on a mission to get myself a new licence. A task i expected to be drawn out and complicated. Armed with every document and card i could find, to prove i am who i am. Not looking forward to having to have my photo taken, I hadn't had time this morning to do my hair and anyways i like the younger looking me on my licence. Reminds me of my youth, my life before children. It was my first licence!

Turns out my expectations couldn't have been more wrong. It was a surprisingly quick, efficient and painless process, even with two little ones in tow! Best of all the sweet, sweet man that served me said i wouldn't need to have my photo taken as i still look the same!!!!

That was 7 years ago!! I don't have my actual licence to show you, but this is a picture taken around the same time. I couldn't believe my ears. I got myself out of there quick smart before he changed his mind!

Such a kind man, he must of know thats just what i needed to shake my mondayitis.
He made my day!

What was your Monday like?

Grateful . .

This week i am grateful for happy days and motivation.

I'm not sure what it was.. maybe yesterdays post some how triggered my subconsciousness.

Today was one of those amazing happy days. A day were everything went my way and everything fell into place.
A perfectly timed kinder drop off. Coffee and a spot of shopping with a friend. A surprisingly well behaved little lady. A very happy boy on pick up. And a great two hour sleep for both!

Best of all - i got so much done! With the little ones snoozing, i powered through all my house work!
I felt so motivated. Surprisingly they continued to play happily together for the whole afternoon and i ticked all those extra little things i'd been meaning to do off my list.
It feels so satisfying. My house looks beautiful. My kiddlets so happy and helpful.

I am feeling very grateful and oh so happy!

Thank you happy days and thank you motivation!
{more days like these, please!}

Time to do it all . .

There is so much i want to do in my life, i know i am capable of. I just can't find the hours in the day to do everything i want too.

I want to do it all.

I want to be the best mum, wife and person i can be. I want to have time. Keep on top of the household things. Take care of my lovely little kiddies. Have time with my hubby. Be a good friend. Cook amazing meals. Blog, read all your lovely blogs and most importantly have time to create and make lovely things!
At the moment i just can't keep on top of everything, which leaves little time to do the things i love.

But then I spend so much time looking online, reading, learning, collecting and pining and planning. When what i really need is too be doing!

Time to make time i think.

I would love to hear how you all do it? How do you balance your lives?

Energy Muffins . .

I did some cooking with my little lovelies today. The wintry days trapped indoors are already sending them {and me} a little stir crazy!

These little energy muffins are packed full of goodness. A perfect sweet treat. If your like me and not too keen on feeding your kiddlets junk, you will love these! So versatile and super tasty!

1/2 cup caster sugar
2 cups plain flour
2 tsp ground cinnamon
2 tsp baking powder
1 cup sultanas
2 cup grated apple
1 cup desiccated coconut
1 cup oats {i use muesli}
1 cup of whatever you like, dates, nuts, grated pear, carrot or more apple . .
3 eggs
1/2 cup sunflower oil
1/2 natural yoghurt
1 tsp vanilla
icing sugar to dust {optional}

Preheat oven to 180 degrees celsius. Use paper cases to line muffin pans.

Sift sugar, flour, cinnamon and baking powder into a large bowl. Add sultanas, apple, coconut and muesli. In a separate bowl, beat together eggs, oil and vanilla.

Add to dry ingredients and fold until just combined - do not over mix.

This is my adapted recipie. You can find the original here.

This little piggy went to market. .

Ok so there weren't any piggy's, but there was a cute little animal farm thing down at the prahran market yesterday. Apparently it is there every week. I think if i had know this i would have been taking the kids there every Tuesday!

The kidlets absolutely loved it, could possibly be the best $4 i think i have ever spent! I'm not sure how much the animals loved it. I felt a little concerned and sorry for them, but the people who ran it assured me they were well cared for and treated kindly.

I could not get the boy and little lady out of there! We have been stuck at home for the past week in quarantine, with colds and chest infections. So they were super excited to be out and about and making some new furry friends.

The little lady proceeded to corner and kiss anything that moved, whereas the boy was a little more hesitant and took quiet a lot of convincing to get that guinea pig on his lap!

It got me thinking how important animals and pets are in children's lives. We always had pets growing up. Rabbits, cats, dogs, fish, birds and turtles. We had them all and then some more. Hubby and I are feeling the time is approaching to get the kiddies are pet of there very own. I mean we already have a cat. She is elusive and un-child-friendly as cats can be {our baby before we had babies.}  And we have fish too.. But I would really like to get them a dog, maybe for Christmas, they would love a dog.

Although... maybe we could get a rabbit in the mean time... yes, can you tell i am definitely an animal lover!

Do you have any pets? Can anyone recommend a dog breed that is good with kids??

A Grateful Post . .

This week i am grateful for modern medicine and antibiotics.

My poor little lady has bronchiolitis and an ear infection. She has had a fever and been miserable for most of the week. She has never been so sick and it has been heartbreaking. Her shortness of breath and unsettledness. I know it is nothing compared to what a lot of other children and parents go through, and i know i am really lucky that she WILL be ok.  Still i can't help but worry and feel so helpless.

I am so thankful that we have such amazing doctors and facilities available to us.

We are very lucky.

What are you grateful for this week?

Macaron Needle Felting!

Last night i was lucky enough to attend a secret needle felting workshop, run by the ever so lovely and talented Cintia from my poppet!

I had no idea even what felting was, but since i have been trying to get more in touch with my crafty side, and had been drooling over the macarons in the my poppet online shop, i thought i should have a go at making them! (sorry ladies no macarons of the eating variety here today - maybe that could be next weeks project!?)

We all got our own pads, felting needles and all Cinti's wonderful felting knowledge and set off on making our very own macarons! It wasn't as difficult as i thought it would be and i had a super fun time!  Best of all we had a bit of extra time and got to make a sweet little toadstool too!

I am quiet pleased with my effort and actually think mine turned out pretty good!

The kids loved them..
What do you think?

Now armed with my own bag of roving wool, a heap of knowledge and ideas, its time to create. Not sure what i'll make next but somehow i think i might be hooked!

To find out more about felting or read Cinti's round up of the evening check out her blog here.

Girls night out!

I put on my new boots tonight and set off for a girls night out! (how nice are my new boots!!?) They are a gorgeous charcoal  suede and are so comfy, i love them!

I met with one of my best friends and headed off to our favourite Japanese restaurant. We try to get out and catch up for a mid-week meal once a fortnight. I think it's really important to get out of the house and have some adult time! The sushi was out of this world, as usual, and it was lovely to catch up with all the gossip over a few glasses of wine!

It is great to have some quality time without the kids, time to relax and let my hair down a bit.. it makes me feel somehow a little more in touch with reality. A little more like me. It's good for the soul and good for all of us i think.
Like hubby says a happy wife is a happy life!

What did you get up too tonight?

Lose the Fear

These words really speak to me. I need to lose my fear. I have always feared being wrong. Throughout my life i have always aimed to please. Don't get me wrong i can certainly stand up for myself and i consider myself to be quite a strong person. But in some aspects of my life i realize i really need to take charge, i need to lose my fear of the unknown. i need to learn new things and allow my creative side to shine. I know it is in me, deep down. Lost in the sea of motherhood, a place that i am so thankful to be. I don't wish to be anywhere else, yet i would just like it to come with a side of creative, please.

I am hoping this blog is a new beginning for me. A place i can learn, share and grow. I know i am capable. I just need to make time and gather momentum. Let the fear drift away. Try new things. Time not to be afraid, to be or do wrong.

Time to just be me.

Market Day . .

Thursday is market day at our house. Every week we head down to prahran market nice and early to get our share of fresh produce. We dance and sing to some wonderful music, the kidlets run around like crazy while i drink my well needed coffee!

I love it, the variety is amazing, i have been going regularly for almost eight years so i definitely have my favorites. Fruit and vegetables always from Pino's fine produce, meat from Neils, deli goods and anything else you can imagine from Delicatess, the freshest seafood from Claringbolds, i can't ever miss a trip through the amazing Essential Ingredient, and i always head to Jasper's for the best coffee! There is also always the most amazing fresh flowers, i'm loving these gorgeous cabbage flowers i spotted today, aren't they amazing?

After all my shopping is done we head over to the court yard to listen to some cool tunes by Alex Espino, the kids love his mexican inspired songs and he has a huge collection of mini instruments and maracas for the kids to join in too! They have an absolute ball, it wears them out nicely and best of all its free!

If you live in Melbourne and haven't been, you have to get yourself down there! I'm there every week so come and say hi!

A Grateful Post . .

I'm joining maxabella loves to share with you one of the many things i am grateful for..

Today on the eve of Mothers Day weekend, i am grateful for my grandmother. An amazing, beautiful woman. Kind, compassionate and giving. She has always been an inspiration to me. Family was the most important thing to her, and it breaks my heart that she will never get to meet mine.

I know it is a bit cliché, but i am also forever grateful for my own mum. Without these two women i wouldn't be who or where i am today.

So much love for you both.

What are you grateful for this week?

Best ever sausage rolls. .

You have to make these! I know no one can resist a good sausage roll, and these are the best. This is my mum's recipe from back in the day, i have no idea where she got it from but honestly, it is the best ever. Always a huge hit, loved by big and little kids alike!

1kg best quality sausage mince
1 onion grated
1 small carrot grated
1/2 tsp dried mixed herbs
2 thick slices of bread crust removed {i use sourdough or rye}
hot water
salt + pepper
frozen sheets of puff pastry
egg yolk for glazing
1 small grated zucchini
finely chopped baby spinach
grated pumpkin
I always add the extra vegetables and use up whatever is in the fridge.

Preheat oven to 200 degrees celcius.
Place bread in a small bowl, barely cover with hot water, stand for 10 mins, drain, press out surplus water.

Combine bread, mince, onion, carrot, and whatever other vegetables you have decided to add. Salt, pepper
and mixed herbs. Mix with hands to combine.

This next part is completely up too you, depending on what size rolls you are going to make. This is what i do.
Cut pastry sheets in half  fill with mix along one edge, fold over and roll pastry over filling, glaze other edge with egg yolk to seal. Repeat until all mixture is used.

Place on baking trays and brush with egg yolk. Bake in hot oven for 10 mins then reduce heat to 160 degrees celcius for further 15 to 20 mins or until golden brown and crisp. Cut each roll to desired size and serve.

For freezing
Cook for 15 mins at 200 degrees celcius.
Cool completely on a wire rack. Wrap each roll in gladwrap and seal in an airtight container.
To reheat, preheat oven to 160 degrees celcius and bake frozen rolls for 20 mins until completely heated through, golden and crisp.

Enjoy! I guarantee you won't have any leftovers. I just made a double batch for freezing, the kids lunch and for my brother who arrives back home from America tomorrow. They are his favorite - hubbies too it seems, i think he just ate six while i wasn't looking . . i told you they were good!

First Night Off . .

Tonight was the first night i have not put my kidlets to bed. No parental duties in sight. For one or both, i have always been there to do the bed  time thing. Two years and eight months to be exact of putting babies to bed. The bath. The jarmies and nappies. The milk. The story telling. The hugs and the 'one more kiss muma'.

Don't get me wrong i've never had to do it alone, hubby is the master of bedtime, but it's always me, muma, that tucks them in and gives the final hugs and kisses. It's a sad and happy time. I'm sure some people must think it's crazy not to have someone else put your babies to bed at some stage or another. But for me, with Mum and Dad interstate and no family near by it has never been an option for us. { that is actually a little lie, my fabulous 25 year old brother is pretty local and he always offers to help, but has only ever babysat once the babies are fast asleep! which is brilliant, don't get me wrong! } And I don't mean to imply that i have not been out at night since having my lovelies, i often sneak in a mid-week dinner with a friend or two, and hubby and i will occasionally go out for a nice dinner once they are in bed and fast asleep.

But tonight was different, good and bad, i can't quiet decide yet. I had to go to a course for work which started at 6:30 { followed by drinks thank god } which meant i had to leave straight after dinner and left the remainder of the evening fun to hubby. Of course they were absolutely fine without me, little lady went down like a dream, she is so easy. The boy took a little more conversing, he has to always know what's going on and likes everything to be thoroughly explained to him, he tried to test the boundaries as only two and a half year olds know how. But Dad won't put up with that carry on. Both were fast asleep, dreaming sweet dreams by 7:36! Good job Dad!

So truth be told, it was i that missed them more than they had missed me. I cherish that special time we have together before sleep comes and the devils of the day turn into sleeping treasures of the night. Who knew they would survive with out me? It's too soon for them to not need there mum . . don't tell me its so.

I am a self confessed over protective mum, i love my little ones so much and worry like crazy when they are not close by, even though i know they are perfectly safe, i never like to say good bye .. but on the other hand .. after tonight, an evening without responsibility and a few glasses of wine i could surely get used to! It was pure bliss. I could even say it's just exactly what i needed!
