Motivation Found

And it was. I am grateful this week for finding my motivation. It was a full and productive week. I ticked lots of things off my to do list. I had a huge spring clean, my house is spotless, i love it. It always makes me feel so much better. It doesn't happen all that often, I have visitors over the weekend, but i'm hoping this time my wave of motivation continues. For now i'm going to kick back and enjoy a nice weekend with my family and friends, in my nice clean home.

Hope you have a lovely weekend too!

Linking with Maxabella, what are you grateful for this week?

A History In Hair

I was looking through some old photos the other day. And as a hairdresser I always check out the hair first. I often wonder what i should do with my own hair, its a constant internal battle, to cut or not to cut? Anyhow I thought it would be a fun to look at all the different hairstyles i have or haven't had had over the years. So here it is - some really bad photos of me and my hair over the last ten or so years.

As you can see my hairstyles have really always been quiet boring. I did wear it short for a while, mostly when I was younger {and skinnier}, but as i have gotten older I have always gone safer and kept it longer. The changes are always minimal and I tend to stick to the same things wavy, curly, straight, fringe, side fringe, darker, slightly lighter. And more lately I have become lazy and just put it in a high messy bun. Kids and babies do that to hair I think. I know I don't have much time to be styling and fussing in the mornings. But I think I am ready for a change, something different... I just don't know what. I can't see myself any other way. And I think that happens to, as we get older we get more set on the way we 'think' we should look and it can become very difficult to change. Well that's my excuse anyhow.

So do you have any suggestions for me?

I would love to see your hair history and invite you to share it with me too. Add a link in the comments if you have any posts about your hair so i can pop over and have a look.

Twenty Seven

My brother moved to Melbourne four years ago, he didn't really know anyone but made the move from Sydney to be closer to us. He is our only real family in Melbourne. In the time he has been here, he has made an abundance of friends and met plenty of people, as have I, some we would now call family too.

I got a phone call this afternoon from one of his best mates, lets call him Gilbert. Gilbert is a country boy at heart and moved to Melbourne with another friend around the same time my brother did. I can't remember how they met, but somehow they all became close friends and moved in together. As the years have passed we have seen more and more of the boys, they join us for meals and celebrations, they are good with the kiddies, like a drink and always provide plenty of entertainment. They have become our family too.

It is unusual for me to get a phone call from Gilbert. I was a little suspicious and worried as to why he would be calling me. It surprised me when he started with the pleasantries. And then out came the reason behind the call 'it is my birthday on Monday, can we come over for dinner?'. Of course I said yes. I think it's so sweet and I am more than flattered. You see it is almost becoming a tradition to have each of the boys here on their birthdays, i cook whatever they fancy and make a cake, what ever they request. I am like the mum. I love the chance to make something special, for my family, for my brothers, I love that they would choose to spent their birthday's with us.

That is the best kind of family, the one you choose to have.

What is your family like? Do you have friends that are you're family too?

Problogger + Sunny Sundays

It feels like so much has happened... we have been so busy and the little ones have been so sick i haven't had a chance to sit and write.

On Friday i attended the problogger training event, held at the Novotel in Melbourne CBD. Not doubt you have heard and read countless posts about the day so i won't bang on about it too much. I really had a great time {apart from feeling a little ill in the morning} I met so many amazing bloggers and spent the day with some of my faves, some i am lucky enough to call my friends. Darren Rowse was amazing. I learnt so much and feel overwhelmed with all the information provided on the day, i am not sure it all applied to me as my blog in not monetized, but there was a lot that really got me thinking, in fact i don't think i have even processed all of it yet. I need to sit, re read all of my notes and try to absorb it. I need to put what i learnt into action. I could even say i loved the networking and social aspect of the day more than the conference itself, it was a great opportunity to meet, greet and chat with lots of like minded people. My night continued, and i was lucky enough to have a lovely dinner and some more drinks with some pretty amazing women. I feel very privileged.

I backed it up with work early on Saturday. After such a big day and night to say i was tired was an understatement. A quiet night was in order, i caught up on some much need sleep.

Sunday was such a beautiful day, the sun was shining, the air smelt fresh and clear from all the rain we'd had. Melbourne was simply gorgeous. The little ones, having been sick all week and been couped up in the house, they were feeling better and desperate to get out, as were we. We decided early to head over to my brothers place, the kiddies we super excited to see Uncle Bert. He made us a yummy breakfast and kept us entertained for the day. We walked in the sun, had coffee, relaxed and slept. We drank beers in the afternoon and headed out for an early dinner. A simply perfect day, i got to laze and relax without having all the washing and cleaning i should be doing staring at me. The little ones were so good, on their best behavior and relishing in such a lovely day out. I couldn't have asked for anymore.

So tell me how are you? what have you been up too lately?

One Of Those Days

It was one of those days. It all started well, full of hope and promise. Sunshine and fun. But quickly took a turn for the worse. Riley has been unwell since Monday, a virus so the doctor says. This morning he woke feeling and looking a little better. So i thought i would take the risk and head out for the morning. We just went to the supermarket and did some shopping. Nothing too exciting or strenuous. But boy did i pay for it. Sleeps were minimal and Riley woke with a raging fever and much sicker than before. Lyla is teething and possibly coming down with the same thing. They were both miserable. It was a long and draining afternoon for us all. The little ones were so tired, whingy and clingy. I didn't feel so calm. But kept it together for them. I fed {not that they ate}, bathed them and tucked them in to bed nice and early. They didn't resist it. They were tired and they new it. I was relieved.

And now my head feels clearer. The house is quiet. The chaos has faded. Wine is helping. I know that tomorrow is a fresh new day. And that in it self is comforting.

How was you're day today? How do you turn a bad day into a good one?

From Little Things Big Things Grow

As i have probably mentioned previously, Saturday is Daddy day at our house. I trot off to work at 8am and the little ones spend the day with Daddy O. They often can't wait to get me out the door to see what he has in store for them. I'm never quiet sure exactly what goes on, but it is usually something pretty special and something Mum would never do. They wear their jarmies and have nothing but fun. This week they baked bread and made homemade pizza for lunch. As well as planting their own alfalfa in cute little decorated cut up milk bottles {the decoration washed off after watering}. How ace is that? I don't know where he got the idea from? Its something i would probably never do. And i like that. Its the little things that make the father child relationship grow. Its the time, thought, support and nurturing. Its the best.
We all benefit and we are all so lucky, its the normal at our house.

From little things big things grow. Even little alfalfa sprouts.

Happy Monday.

Receiving

This week has been a rather busy one, but in a good way, which makes for a nice change. We have been lucky enough to receive lots of lovely gifts along the way. A lovely pair of shoes from All About Heidi arrived in the mail yesterday for Lyla, courtesy of the lovely Claire. They are the most beautiful little leather shoes i have ever seen, made with such care and love. Lyla looked so comfortable in them and could almost put them on and off herself, not sure if that's a good or bad thing, but for an independent little miss who likes to dress and undress herself i'm pretty sure she will love them just as much as i do! {note the inside out leggings!}

Riley scored well this week too, one of my lovely friends is visiting from overseas and bought him some awesome Automoblox minis, they are little cars with interchangeable pieces so you can pull them apart, build and customize them yourself.  The little man thinks there pretty ace and so do i, he has played with them non stop for the last two days - now that's a record!

And lucky me got given this gorgeous Anthropologie scarf!

We are all feeling pretty special and loved up this week! {except poor Mr S} So many beautiful things and so so lucky to have such beautiful friends.

Hope you are having a good week too?

Happy Campers

We headed off to Phillip Island over the weekend for our first little camping trip as a family. Its my not perfect idea of a weekend getaway, but the little man had been nagging for weeks {I think Saturdays with Dad and the tent in the lounge room had put the idea in his head and he now wanted to do the real thing.} To be honest I wasn't too keen on the idea, but I was out numbered. I decided I was going to do it for them, I wouldn't moan and complain as I usually would have. I wanted to make the most of this little adventure and make it one for us all to remember. To my surprise, it wasn't at all as bad as I had imagined it would be. The weather wasn't great but the kiddies had an amazing time, we all did, it was so nice to be by the ocean, to run and play on the beach, to watch them explore and enjoy the adventure together.

I think this was the first of many camping trips. And that makes me happy.

What did you get up too over the weekend?

Do you ever go camping?

Happy Monday.

Thrifty Finds . .

Being out of town for the weekend gave me the opportunity to explore new op shops, markets and antique stores. Unfortunately, where we were everything was completely overpriced but i manage to find these sweet little mugs and a lovely apron.

Did you have any good finds?

Learning To Draw

A bit of a flat old week here. But what made me smile and what i am most grateful for is when, out of the blue Riley started to draw people! It was as if it had happened overnight, he had never drawn anything like it. I knew he was over at the chalkboard, then i heard him muttering 'eyes, mouth... curly hair..' I went to further investigate and to my surprise saw a little person, i couldn't believe it. One day he was drawing circles and squiggles then next it was us, he drew our little family, as well as an octopus and a yellow sun. I am oh so proud! I think this little guy is pretty ace!

I am very excited to be joining with the lovely Maxabella once again for this weeks gratefuls.

What are you grateful for?

Hoping you have a great weekend.
