Grateful {reunion}

The lovely Bron of Maxabella loves is having a very special, grateful reunion this week and I couldn't help but join in the celebrations!

One of the first things I discovered when I started blogging was the Grateful linky and one of the very first comments I ever received here was from Bron. I then hesitantly joined in with this post, another first. The warmth, support and community was such a surprise to me, I hadn't expected it. But Bron made me feel welcome and it opened up a whole new world.

I haven't been very grateful lately, but here goes...

Health - we have somehow all managed to avoid sickness so far this winter, I am not sure how, but I hope it stays this way.

Girls night - who doesn't love a night out with great friends and this one I am particularly excited about!

Maxabella - Bron, you are ace. Thank you for making me stop, think and be grateful for all I have. And in a way, introducing me to this amazing blogging community. Happy two years my dear!

For all this and more I am ever grateful.

Happy weekend my friends.

Are they twins??

Not a day goes by without someone on the street stopping and asking me 'are they twins?'

No. They are not twins. They are eighteen months apart. But I forgive them for thinking so. They are both awfully cute, even if I do say so myself and ok sometimes by accident I may dress the similarly and MrS really did want to have twins and I guess they do kinda look alike.

A breath of crisp fresh air

It was a home day here for us. It was cold, but sunny in the morning. I opened the windows and doors, turned the heating off, rugged the kids up and let the cold fresh breeze flow through. We cleaned, played and pottered about.

It was a breath of fresh air.

A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week.
A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savour and remember.

Enjoy the weekend lovelies. x

Dinner discussions

I hesitate using the term meal planning here, I'd hate for you to think I am really that organised.

I'm not.

But I do like to put a little thought into what we might eat each week. I like to shop locally at the market or farmers markets, using whats in season and avoiding the supermarket when I can, which is near impossible. My house is usually stocked with an abundance of fresh fruit and vegetables, fridge full to the brim. Normally I just decided whats for dinner on the day using whats on hand and utilizing what I have left in the fridge or freezer to minimize waste.

I hate waste.

But before our trip to the market this week, I decided to get the cook books out for some inspiration. I sat on the lounge room floor with kids and flicked through some of my favourites. We chatted and looked, they pointed things out that they liked and we discussed each suggestion. Riley made a list of the meals he wanted by drawing each in his notebook, burgers were first up with chips on the side, followed by chicken and sausages. I filled in the gaps, made a few suggestions and compiled my list. They were both really looking forward to our trip to the market to shop for all the ingredients we would need and were so excited about the meals we had planned.

I love market days and the overflowing fruit bowl that results. So do the little ones. This meal planning might not be too bad either, I mean I didn't strictly plan every meal for the week, it's more of a loose plan. Like Riley's suggestion for chicken, I thought I would make a chicken curry but decided to make Ruths southern style chicken instead. Which was a huge hit. Riley has helped me cook each meal, simply by getting things from the fridge, mixing, mashing and supervising! He loves being involved, it gives him some responsibility and makes him feel special and needed. After each meal is prepared, like every night, we sit down at the table and eat together. I really think this is so important and a main part of the reason my kiddies are such good little eaters. It is one of my favourite times of the day, when we all sit down together and share a meal. Of course the kids are sometimes ratty, a little crazy and they don't always like what I make. But it is a little ritual we all love, it's the normal for us, a time to be together as a family, to chat, laugh, try new things and learn. Added to that I loved sitting down with them and discussing our dinners this week. It may just be our new thing.

So tell me, do you do a weekly meal plan? and do you eat with your little ones?

First timers

We received tickets to the Brave preview on Sunday and thought 'why not?' First big screen movie for the little ones and they were glued. Did not move from their seats and kept the 3D glasses on for the entire movie. Some of it went over their heads, but all in all they loved it. The vibrant animation captivated them. And we loved watching the delight on their faces at this totally new experience.

What was the first movie you took your kids too?

Lego days

We have been spending some quiet time at home this week. With all this going on, my mind is often else where, but I find it relaxing and beneficial to just be and focus on my little ones. It's a good distraction.

Yesterday morning we had a big Lego/Duplo session {did you know that all the different systems interlock?} Anyhow Riley asked me to photograph his work and how was I to refuse. Love your work little man.

blink

Was it really just a long weekend? Certainly didn't feel like one here. I must have blinked and missed it. Which is a shame really because I could do with a bit of a break. This week is set to be another big one, with a trip back to Sydney in the middle. I can't wait for it to be over.

Scotty

My heart is broken with the news that you are no longer with us.
You were far too young to endure what you did.

I am lost for words.

You are so loved and will be missed greatly.

Daddy Does

Daddy always does the best stuff in our house. He is always so fun, creative and all round ace. Like this. When I got back from being away for a couple of days, I wasn't surprised to see a few new additions around the place. Like these cute little grass head things he had made with the kiddies as well as planter boxes on the window sill. In my absence they had taken a trip to the local gardening store and stocked up. Riley and Lyla now both have their own little inside gardens, packed with lettuces, radishes, pansies! How fun! They also did lots of other cool things while I was away, like, an outing to the toy shop and sushi lunch, cookie baking and making up fun new games!

I missed my little family so much when I was away. But I never worry. I love what Daddy does and love that he is so capable. I think he may even do a better job than me... but don't tell him that.

Oh how I missed you

Last Friday I had to take an unexpected trip to Sydney. {hence my absence here} I got the call at lunch time that my young cousin, whom has been fighting cancer, had been taken into intensive care. My brother and I booked flights and headed there as soon as we could. I'm not going to go into too much detail, but I don't think the outcome will be good. I have written about Scott here before. I am so glad we went to see him. It was a very emotional and stressful weekend, most of it was spent in at RPA, with the exception of a nice meal and drink here and there. And the added benefit of spending time with my family and being with both my brothers.

I can't tell you though, how much I missed my little ones. The longest time I have been away from them and hubs, I was so happy when we arrived home last night. Nothing beats being at home.

Scott turned eighteen yesterday, far to young to be going through something like this.

If you pray, could I ask you to spare one for him?
